Daily there is a lot of chatter about Health and Wellness.  Though it is not an easy task of staying on point with health details, it is a necessary one.  Having health and an overall wellness is so freeing.  Health and Wellness is simply defined as an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life."  It is also a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity," according to The World Health Organization.  The Six Dimensions of Wellness which includes—occupational, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual and emotional, concludes that: Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward a more successful existence.


Decide TODAY to make a choice every day for Health and Wellness on purpose. There are health issues that are preventable or even manageable by adjusting diet and exercise habits. The benefits of choosing a healthier lifestyle not only improves overall wellness, but it also saves money.  Block some of the chatter by finding sound, reasonable information.  The old adage that says, “If it sounds too good to be true, then it is” applies to Health and Wellness.  There are NO quick or easy fixes, that last.  Everyday may not be a stellar health day, but always strive to do, get, and be better each day.  Overcoming a sugar addition is a daily process with careful execution.  Perple Girl use to have a bag-a-day gummy bear habit.  This addiction was very similar to a recreational drug addiction.  Do not worry, because she has been Gummy Bear Sober for about 12.5 months.  Sugar can be just as difficult to overcome and wreak havoc on your health and wellness in several areas.

Preventative Care

Getting to this point reveals a desire to embark on a healthier lifestyle. It is not all about outer visual appearance as much as it is about the inner health.  Starting from the inside outwardly helps address underlying health issues that may be prohibiting an active lifestyle.  If the health issues are weight related, then there are many solutions to reversing or preventing problems.  The first step is simple.  The human body is approximately 70% water.  Therefore, water replenishment is necessary.  Drinking water increase energy, prevents fatigue, promotes weight loss, flushes out toxins, improve skin complexion, maintains regularity, boosts immune system, natural headache remedy, prevents sprains & cramps, improve moods and saves money.


Moreover, most preventative measures are simple, easy or free and some are all three.  The next preventative care measure is exercise.  No expensive gym memberships, unless being in the company of others helps inspire a can-do attitude and the will power to push through to needed results.  There are a plethora of free online workouts, fitness DVD’s, and downloadable exercise routines to add great variety and work the body from head to toe daily (or at least 5 to 6 days per week).  Still lost for a starting point, then start walking.  Walking, like water, has several benefits.  Walking 30 minutes a day will reduce risks of coronary heart disease, improve blood pressure & blood sugar levels, lower risks of obesity, enhance mental well being, reduce risks of osteoporosis, reduce risks of breast & colon cancer, and reduce risk of type 2 diabetes. Exercising Counts

Take the next steps–literally–after implementing some preventative care by incorporating exercise routines into the daily schedule.  As mentioned above, simply walking 30 minutes per day can be the gateway to better health.  Now is the time to build a bridge to better health by establishing a lifestyle that includes cardio, strength & weight training and perhaps some yoga (no chanting necessary).  Yoga as a strengthening and stretching exercise has many benefits as does cardio and weight training, which include improve heart health, increase metabolism, improve hormonal profile, improve recovery ability, improves bone density, burns fat, and management of diabetes. Nutrition Matters

Exercising is great, but accompanying it with better nutrition is even better.  The benefits of incorporating good nutrition works together with preventative measures as well as exercising to enhance heart health, prevent high cholesterol, improve energy, and prevent the development of chronic diseases.  Not every item with healthy labels is so.  Like other areas of Health and Wellness, nutrition is one that requires close scrutinizing.  Learning to read labels and decipher ingredients takes time, but is doable.  The first and easiest rule of nutrition is to eat whole, fresh foods.  Look for simple ingredient lists.  Try to pass on foods with complicated chemical preservatives, over process food items, and foods with trans fat in their ingredient lists.  Search for items that are naturally low in fats, cholesterol free, no-trans fat, low in sodium and low in sugar. No, this does not mean the only food option is air.  If no food item meets all the before mentioned requirements, try for at least a combination of two or three things, i.e. low sodium, low sugar and no trans fat, or low fat, low sodium, low or no cholesterol.
